Caught the new A-Rod "Yankeeography" on YES tonight. It's good. Doesn't sugarcoat Alex's time in New York. Gets into the postseason struggles, the up-and-down relationship with the fans and the fiasco with the contract at the end of last season. And, of course, it shows a whole lot of monsterous homeruns. Worth watching.

I'm sick of Yankeeographies on current players, particularly when they haven't been clutch performers. If A-Rod walked off the field today he would be best compared to Dave Winfield - a lot of big personal stats, but no rings, nothing in the clutch.
Save the Yankeeographies for when these guys retire IF they deserve it then. Make another show about the current guys if they want, but YES shouldn't cheapen the "Emmy Award Winning" Yankeeography series by running it for players who haven't earned it. I think I may turn to this moment as when Yankeeography "Jumped The Shark."
I sort of agree...I like A-Rod, and he's great and all of that, but he is not yet a Yankee great..he won't be until he bats .400 in the post season..or anything above .100..plus..his baseball card is not complete yet..not by a long shot. What if he DOES have that big post season? Maybe he hits 4 HRs in the deciding game? Maybe he breaks Hank Aaron's record (yeh you heard me right)..then they'll have to update the show, and everyone will have to buy new Yankeeography DVD box sets..
I admit to being a sucker for "Yankeeography." I'd probably watch one about Horace Clark.
I do, however, fear that doing one on current players gives them a premature sense of legendhood, which could take away from their burn to win. Maybe it is better to wait until the career is over.
Mike & Mad Dog were talking about this one day last year. They tend to agree with these posts, but the common sentiment is this:
1) They've already done all of the huge names from the past
2) Most viewers would rather see bios of current players anyway.
I like both new and old, but Mike and Dog were saying many people wouldn't watch one on an older guy. I think that's nuts. It's the Yankee Network. That's what they do. And guys like Red Ruffing, who won 20+ games all the time back in the '30s ... well, I'd love to learn more about them.
