The Yanks looked great this weekend. They won at the plate on Thursday, and with arms the rest of the series. Nearly everyone contributed in some way or another.
Now if they can only keep it together through the stretch and post-season...
Very proud of the bullpen on Friday during the 15-inning game. - Mel
Mo was really getting squeezed in the bottom of the 9th on Sunday. But he stepped up and kept dealing. Love the way the game/series ended on another busted bat ...
I'm a few days late on this, but I have to weigh in on the recent report in the New York Post that there is still a big rift between A-Rod and Jeter, and based that assumption on the fact they were recently at the same restaurant, at different tables, with their respective friends, and did not interact with each other. It said that after his meal, Jeter simply waved over to A-Rod's table, but did not go over to speak, and they tried to make a big deal about it. What a load of nonsense. Don't people realize these guys are together for 12 hours a day for seven months a year? They are in the clubhouse together for hours before every game. They are on the field and in the dugout together for three hours a night. On the road, they are on team buses together, and airplanes together, and at hotels together ...
What the hell do they want A-Rod and Jeter to do? Hug one another and say "Hey, buddy! Long time no see. How have you been? Gee, I haven't seen you in what ... like, two hours?" Do they want them to share dessert off the same plate? They're grown men. Let it alone. If they were at the same restaurant in the middle of December or January and didn't greet each other, you could read something into it, but in the middle of the season, it's no big deal. Ever see one of your co-workers outside of the office and just wave, rather than go over? It doesn't mean you have a problem with them or don't like them. It just means you're doing your own thing. Let it go.
Good point about Jeter/A-Rod. I think somebody was reading WAY too much into that one. And really, who cares? They seem to root for each other on the field. That's all that matters.
Yanks now have the BEST home record in baseball. The new stadium is starting to feel like home.
This may seem like on odd thing to be concerned about, but last night's win over the Jays was again the result of back-to-back homers late in the game. The same thing happened vs. Boston on Sunday. They are great wins, but we can't count on the long ball so much. I'd like so see a few more big rallies with some singles and doubles, where they really put six, seven or eight hits together in an inning, rather than leaning so much on the home run.
Media coverage of Papi is minimal compared to A-Rod. Always thought it was just a lot of nonsense, but I am beginning to think there is something to the ESPN/Red Sox love fest.
I've been thinking the same thing about the late inning home runs. But I think that just about every guy on this team, especially at home, thinks they can jack one out of the park whenever they need to. But I agree ... it'd be good to also see some big, clutch rallies strung together by hits.
Sick of hearing about the "Joba Rules." It's silly. The guy is, what ... 23 years old? And they're talking about shutting him down soon or cutting his innings down? This team is in a pennant race, looking to win a World Championship. He is our fourth starter - not our fifth starter -he is an important part of the rotation. Just let the guy pitch!
Well ... they got a couple of hits today in the 9th for the win. Nice!
Love it when there are pies.
This homestand was the real christening on The Stadium. Now, it really feels like home.
Eric, a big Yankee fan who often posts his thoughts here, asked us to post this link about Joba. Looks like the are at least going to try and let him go for it in the fall:
