To the surprise of absolutely no one, it was announced today that Sammy Sosa used performance-enhancing drugs. So, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Sosa were all cheats. Hey, we all enjoyed the big home run boom of 1998, but it's now pretty much a joke. Don't be surprised if Yankee great Roger Maris is once again declared the single-season home run champ sometime within the next few years, and Hank Aaron is again declared the all-time home run king. Who knows? Maybe all of this will actually help get Roger Maris into the Hall of Fame. All he did was hit more home runs than anybody ever did in a single season, win the A.L. MVP Award twice, play Gold Glove defense in the outfield and help his team win World Championships. That'd get my vote.

Funny in how guys like Bonds, McGwire and Sosa were so hellbent on smashing records that they put God knows what into their bodies for the glory of it all, and now they are all humiliated, will never make the HOF, and have actually done nothing but elevate the status of the men whose records they broke. Pretty ironic.
Wasn't sure if Roger was HOF material, but when they put the guy in from the Pirates a few years back - Bill Mazeroski - I started to think he had a shot. Both guys are most famous for one thing, but Maris may have been an even better player. - Mel
Both Maris and Mazeroski were lifetime .260 hitters. Both were good with the glove. Both were on championship teams. Roger hit about 125 more homeruns, and held one of baseball's best records for 37 years. Many feel he still does. He should be in.
I think it is a stain on baseball that Bonds & McGuire & now Sosa got all the glory --& Roger Maris is still not in Hall of Fame--It is a shame -maybe it will stir some consciences to vote the right way in the future--& give Roger Maris & his family what is his right --a place in the Hall of Fame!
we have to win 2nite,lonnie
All I can say is....Let's release all the names and get it out in the open. We can move on from there.
I guess the next question we can pose is will Major League Baseball have enough guts to strike records or will the place the * next to the steroid era names. They did it to Maris simply because he played in more games. He never cheated.
