The Yankees won the 2009 World Series tonight with an easy win over Philadelphia in Game 6. Andy was great. Pedro was not. The great and prideful Matsui - who hit .615 in the series and drove in six runs in Game 6 - is the series MVP. Jeter bats .407 and ties Ruth and Berra as the only players to hit over . 300 in five World Series. A-Rod carries team through postseason with huge hits. Damon was huge. Mo slams it down - again. Fifth ring for the "Core Four." #27 for the Yankees. #7 for "The Boss." Philadelphia fans - and even some of the players - kept saying how they wanted the Yankees. Well, there's an old saying: Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. Phillies are a great team. Much respect. But congrats to the Yankees - WORLD CHAMPIONS!

finally
Rivera told Gammons that his rib was "killing him"
even more amazing.
Thanks Yanks
CHAMPS!
honorable mention to Jimmy Rollins.
Thanks for not giving us a chance
Rollins said after the game he still thinks the Phillies are better. No class.
Was very proud of Andy. He looked strong from the start and delivered the game. Fantasic. Just fantastic.
There is nothing - nothing - in all of the years that I've followed sports that is cooler to me than seeing Mo make that jog from the bullpen with "Sandman" blasting through the stadium. I was just thinking about it this morning while driving into work and I got goosebumps. It it awesome.
Cheers to the great Rivera.
2009 World Series ERA of 0.00
Clearly one of the greatest and most important Yankees of all-time.
this is soooooo sweet!we stepped on there throats.they looked like a teener team last nite.plus we beat pedro....give damon and matsui 2 yr deals.....i love the fact we put the phillies and more importantly the fans in a state of silence and infriority.....and im sad its over.hope all enjoyed the games.one more thing, now i have to get up for philly vs dallas. whew
Now, there is no question about it:
The new Yankee Stadium is home.
What a great way to open the building.
A friend of mine who is a Phillies fan was semi-whining about how the Yanks can always bring in whatever players they need. I kindly reminded him that though his team were the World Champions, their Game 1 and Game 2 starters in the World Series were high-profile, high-priced pitchers that weren't even on their roster at the All-Star break.
That pretty much ended that conversation.
heard something on ESPN this morning about Matsui's World Series performance ... something about Babe Ruth being the only other guy to hit three home runs and bat more than .600 in a World Series. He also had some other feat that had only been done by Ruth and Gehrig. Very nice company to be in. So happy for him. He has been a first-class Yankee from Day 1. If it was his last game as a Yankee and in the United States, he can go home quite proud. M-V-P
Mo. Total class.
Not only acknowledges the Phillies in his postgame interview, but also the Twins and the Angels.
Fuck yeah ! - Mel
Pedro was breathing heavy and looked gassed in the second inning.
