The great Bob Sheppard, 99, has officially retired as the public address anouncer of the New York Yankees. Bob, who was unable to announce any games at the new Yankee Stadium in 2009, says it's time for him to hang up the microphone for good. Really wish he could have done just one game this year at the new place. Oh well ... as he says in the story, he had a great run. And a least he will ALWAYS introduce the captian. Very cool thing for Jeter to request.

We love you.
Whenever I went to Yankee Stadium I could not wait to hear the golden voice of Bob Sheppard utter those glorious words, "Welcome to Yankee Stadium". Once I heard these words I knew I was at home. I actually downloaded a sound bite of this from the internet. You will be sadly missed Bob Sheppard.
