Francisco Cervelli is really fun to watch. He's tough, he catches a great game and his enthusiasm is infectious. Check him out when he's being interviewed on the post-game shows on YES. He's so young and green, and you can see he's just thrilled to be where he's at. Plus, there's just something fitting about a little Italian guy being the catcher for the Yankees. I think I even saw a little statue of the Virgin Mary or some saint on the shelf in his locker on the post-game show one night. Scooter would have loved this kid. Yogi probably already does.

He's fun. Don't know if he'll hit, but the fact is, most catchers don't. Yankee fans have been very spoiled in that area for 70 years. With Dickey, Berra, Munson, Posada, we've been lucky to usually get some great offense from that position. Even across town with the Mets, you had Carter and Piazza. New York fans have often had great hitting catchers. Cervelli might not be one of those type players, but I do think HE IS the future catcher of the New York Yankees. - Mel
It is funny how most catchers don't hit, and if you look around the league, that's a fact. Yet the Yankees have never really had a catcher who didn't hit. Mike Francesa said the other day on WFAN that's why "Posada is worth his weight in gold."
Elston Howard could hit as well. Even Matt Nokes, Rick Cerone and Mike Stanley were pretty good offensive players. It's true. The Yankees have always got a lot of offense, or at least some offense, from that position.
Catchers don't hit???
Not to be contradictory, but...Joe Mauer...Ivan Rodriguez...Mike Napoli...Brian McCann...Victor Martinez...Russell Martin...Dionner Navarro...hell, even Jason Varitek is hitting again.
Catchers hit, they just don't get the headlines ARod or Pujols get...
As for Cisco...I have loved him since he took that shot in Spring Training last year against the Rays and didn't whine and moan...he rehabbed and came back...NOW look at him!
Good point, but that's still only seven guys out of 30 teams. Mauer is amazing. Yanks will go after him hard someday.
I like this guy so much I say keep him behind the plate and move Posada to the full time DH Role. You could then package Matusi and Molina into a deal for a refief pitcher with closer potential. We need Mo's successer in the set up role. Of course I harken back to the Mo to Wetland era.
Back to Cervelli, why is Girardi sitting him for Cash all of a sudden? This is the krap that really makes me want Girardi out! Cervelli makes things happen. He is solid behind the plate, has a great arm and is willing to give up his body to make an out. I watched the past 2games that were televised on YES (Don't get me going on the MY9 games) and Cash was behind the plate. By the way, Cash was batting .072 going into last nights game. Can someone fill me in on what I may be missing here? - Jim M.
