A-Rod had surgery today to fix the problem with his hip. He'll miss 6-9 weeks. Oddly, reports say the surgery is only a quick, temporary fix, and that he'll need another surgery at the end of the season. I'm bummed that our cleanup hitter is out, but have to admit I'm so sick of reading about the guy, I'll enjoy the break. (Of course, that will end in April anyway when the book the SI reporter has been working on comes out.) Whatever ... the fact is I'm glad he won't be in the lineup the day the new stadium opens. No one player should overshadow such a great event, and somehow, A-Rod would. He won't be on the field. He won't be the guy to hit the first home run. There will be no analysis of whether or not he is cheered or booed. And that's fine with me. Any thoughts?

40 home runs and 120 RBI is huge and will be missed, but I kind of agree. Maybe the other guys on the team will actually enjoy a break from the daily drama as well. I still think they'll get off to a hot start.
GOOD. I'm so f'ing sick of this guy already..and I used to like him. I wish he would just go away already, and something tells me if he DID...they'd win it all. Numbers don't tell the whole story. That's why Jeter is a 4-time Champion and A-Rod is nothing but a distraction and a media circus 24/7.
I agree all the way around. Please - I still miss the days of Jackson, Munson, Randolph, and Piniella. I know - the Yankees are great, have been great and always will be.. It's unfortunate that the media perpetuates junk to the point of gagging on it. I can't wait for the season to start regardless.
I agree with RJC - but as it stands now he stands to cast a large shadow over the Yankee organization for a long time to come.
